Open Veins of the Pampa and the Extinction of the Gaucho: the sojification of the Pampa and its consequences for the way of life in the biome

From a Lukácsian perspective, this paper relates the imminent extinction of the gaucho to the process of sojification of the Brazilian Pampa. It is understood that the gaucho, as a partial complex of social being, could only emerge from the organic qualities unique to the Pampa biome. This biome, however, is at risk of being sandified as a result of the 170% expansion in the area planted with soy in the last two decades. Nevertheless, the ongoing process is already enough to alter the landscape of the Pampa and the way human populations work in the biome. In conclusion, the sojification of the Pampa is subjecting the biome and its human population to the act of reproducing soya.
