Apontamentos acerca da origem do debate sobre heranças na visão da economia política clássica e de Marx

This paper analyzes the origin of the debate about the influence of inheritance on estate formation. That is to say, the article discusses inheritance, seen as the main vector of intergenerational reproduction of wealth, in the History of Economic Thought. For this purpose, it first exposes the logic on the right to bequeath and inherit in the classical liberal tradition. The ideas and narrative of classical authors, such as Adam Smith and Stuart Mill, as well as contemporary authors such as Thomas Piketty, are therefore investigated. In turn, next, we contrast the ideas of these latter intellectuals with authors who presented more radical perspectives, for the abolition of inheritance and, above all, private property. In this section, especially Karl Marx’s approach is explored. Lastly, some conclusions are drawn.
