From Adam Smith to von Mises
the ideological decay of liberalism

In this paper Adam Smith’s and von Mises’ liberalisms are compared. It is sustained that, from Smith to von Mises, liberalism shows some features of the ideological decay. From an ideology that supports the actualization of real possibilities of emancipation, the liberalism turns into a reactionary ideology, that hinders human emancipation. It is showed that von Mises liberalism has the features of ideological decay – immediacy, absence of historicity, formalism, scholasticism, agnosticism and irrationalism.
