Abstract

The emphasis of this article will be on critically reconstructing Marx's notion of the commodity fetish, which will serve as the main parameter for rethinking the notion of fetishism. In possession of this definition, which is quite specific, we will return to the more general idea of fetish, that is, the social process that embeds value and arouses human lust and desire for objects. Every society based on domination is fetishistic: not only because of the mystical character that is very frequent in rituals and embedded in objects, but above all because it presupposes the existence of a sphere of social actions that is more prestigious and higher than mere everyday actions.
